Biography
The Purnells are from Teesside in the North East of England and use strong drum beats, gritty guitars and the occasional wailing harmonica to create a range of short and punchy music, with songs that can be dark and brooding to songs that will make you want to dance on tables and drink the night away.
After 4 years apart from each other, which has seen each member embark on many weird, wonderful and sometimes strangely erotic adventures, they are finally back together again to write new material and share their already robust back catalogue with a wider audience.
Formed in 2007, The Purnells released their first album ‘Resurrection Men’ in 2012. This was followed by the further releases of ‘A Half Step Into The Shadow’ (2014) and ‘Black Dog Laughing’ (2015). They now have exciting plans to release a new album in the coming year.
The band are well loved for their live performances, which involve theatrical uses of face paint, walking canes, ski masks and healthy doses of diving into the audience. Over the years The Purnells have played large scale northern festivals such as Stockton Weekender, Richmond Live and Stockton Calling, where they have supported big names including The Happy Mondays, The Bluetones, Dexy’s Midnight Runners and James.
The Purnells have not lost their stride, despite their time apart, and the messages within their music continues to encapsulate the highs and lows of modern life. We hope you enjoy it.
Their fourth studio album is due for release in winter 2023 with the first singles expected the summer the same year.
